Structure Of specification

This section describes the standardized organizational structure of 3GPP.

From 3gpp specifications groups

The working group that formulates standards is roughly divided into the following three.

  1. RAN (Radio access network)
  2. SA (Service & Systems Aspects)
  3. CT (Core Network & Terminats)

The following is a rough representation of what part of the LTE Architecture each group is responsible for.

From 23.401

  • RAN

The Radio access network (blue frame) mainly develops standards for wireless access between base stations (eNB) and terminals (UE).

  • SA

Service & Systems Aspects (orange frame) mainly develops standards for EPS (Evolved packet system) services, systems, security, etc.

  • CT

Core Network & Terminals (purple frame) mainly develops standards for EPC (Evolved packet core).

The next describes the process of specifications.
